The decision to create SuperJane -- the first all-female DJ collective -- was a no-brainer for Colette, Heather, Lady D, and Dayhota. Not to overlook their skills behind the decks or the daunting task of navigating the male-dominated world of dance music, but in the late '90s, SuperJane's sex appeal easily separated the women from all the house jocks sprouting like dandelions on the Chicago landscape.

Still, there's something even more unique about Colette (born Colette Marino). At the age of 16, she began singing freestyle over other DJs' sets -- and eventually her own, making the classically trained mezzo-soprano one of the few DJs around who croons while mixing.

Colette relocated to Los Angeles in 2000, landing on Om records, which released the Hypnotized CD in 2005. Whether it's the influence of her studio partners, Kaskade and the Greenskeepers, or just the laid-back California lifestyle, Colette has mellowed. The banging techno beats showcased on 2000's In the Sun have been traded for dubby, neo-lounge grooves that make for a perfect match with her poppy vocal vamping.
