Conya Doss neo-soul Cavs

Still . . . doesn't have a bad moment. But it doesn't have any great ones either. It's an hour of solid neo-soul without much of a neo-pulse. Smooth keyboards, sleepy piano, and slow-motion horns help one track melt into another without a single memorable hook. In the album's lone up-tempo track, "Right on Time," a stuttering drum sounds like a malfunctioning sampler shaking loose a break beat from another song. It's a shame, because Doss' fourth album could make her a choice alternative to all of the mainstream divas drowning in drama and covered in borrowed diamonds. In "Something 2Nite," Doss asks her man to stop watching the Cavs and take her out. She doesn't need to get all dolled up and spend the night at the club; takeout burgers will suffice. Doss should be pickier about date night. And her producers.
