Cursive has been churning out an emotional, angular brand of hard rock since 1995, and in only six years, the band has already endured a breakup and numerous lineup changes. After a handful of seven-inches and two independent full-length releases, original guitarist Scott Pederson announced he would be attending law school. That, along with singer-songwriter Tim Kasher's marriage and move from Omaha to Portland, Oregon, caused Cursive's demise in 1998. By last year, however, Kasher was divorced and back in Omaha, where he and the original Cursive rhythm section -- bassist Matt Maginn and drummer Clint Schnase -- called upon friend Ted Stevens (Lullaby for the Working Class, Polecat) to take over Pederson's guitar and backing vocal duties. Domestica, a portrait of the brutal downward spiral of a romantic relationship. Landing on a series of "Best Albums of the Year That You Didn't Hear" lists,
Domestica won acclaim. Critics and fans also appreciated the band's roaring live performances. With the release of the new EP "Burst and Bloom," Cursive explores the ugliness of marketing and its own conflicted view of success. Also, the band's newest member, cellist Gretta Cohn, brings a new depth and breadth of sound to the guitar-bass-drums arrangements. For this show, Cursive will be joined by Los Desparecidos, a new band featuring Bright Eyes singer-songwriter Connor Oberst, as well as the Chapel Hill quartet Sorry About Dresden.
