DAT Politics is the antithesis of the solemn sonic-software manipulators now glazing eyes worldwide: The Lille, France trio seems to have laughing gas wafting out of its PowerBooks; it gleefully sprays peculiar, cartoony tones into splats of chaotic electropop. If he were alive, slapstick musician Spike Jones would surely dig these Frogs. Sometimes their tracks come off too goofy for their own good, but DAT Politics also possess a knack for perversely catchy hooks, best demonstrated on 2002's Plugs Plus (Chicks on Speed). With help from fellow sonic rib-ticklers like Matmos, Kid 606, Blectum From Blechdom, and Felix Kubin, the disc is an aural hall of funhouse mirrors.

Local IDM luminaries Twine, who get better with each release, are reportedly incorporating more organic elements into their new music, some of which is likely to surface on their forthcoming album (due in September on the hot Ghostly International imprint). Ann Arbor's Midwest Product -- another Ghostly artist -- crunches together post-rock and electronica like a less melancholy Notwist.
