Debbie Davies

When it came time to record her latest album, Blues Blast, Debbie Davies decided to play the whole thing live in the studio with as many friends as she could cram in there. "It was almost like a party," she says. Guitarists Tab Benoit and Coco Montoya, as well as harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite, are just a few of the veteran bluesmen who helped spark cuts like "A.C. Strut" and "Sonoma Sunset."

The 54-year-old Davies launched her career back in the '80s, when she spent much time gigging around the Bay and Los Angeles areas. In 1988, she joined blues great Albert Collins' band as a guitarist. "He was one of my heroes," she says. "When I first got to play with him, it was an opportunity to really get into the blues." On her latest tour, Davies is backed by longtime drummer and songwriting partner Don Castagno, and bassist Cass Faulkner, a New Orleans native. Expect plenty of sizzling riffs onstage.
