Dog Days

When: Fri., Aug. 22 2014
Fans of Al Pacino and heist movies are surely familiar with the ’70s teeth-grinding bank robbery flick Dog Day Afternoon. The documentary The Dog recounts the true story of John Wojtowicz, the character on whom Pacino’s Sonny Wortzik was based. Wojtowicz, the son of Polish immigrants, was gay, and robbed the Brooklyn bank in order to pay for his lover’s gender reassignment surgery. The film chronicles his rough life. It opens today at the Capitol Theatre. (Allard)
