When Jhonny Peralta took over at shortstop in the ninth inning of the Indians' final home game last year, he was engulfed by one of the loudest ovations of the season. Problem was, all that applause was for the guy walking off the field. Last year's Fan Appreciation Day turned out to be Omar Vizquel Appreciation Day. This year, they'll be cheering for Peralta at Sunday's Fan Appreciation Day -- featuring lots of giveaways and activities -- during the Tribe's final regular-season home game against the Chicago White Sox. Fans still pine for the team's glory days, says Peralta, and "It's really hard to take over for something like that." Still, it's been a helluva season. Watch the Tribe wrap it up at 1:05 p.m. at Jacobs Field, 2401 Ontario Street. Tickets are $6 to $45; call 216-420-4200. -- Steve Albanese
School of Fish
Tuesday's annual Cargill Bluegill Fishing Derby gives little ones a chance to talk about the big ones that got away. And boys, don't prepare that victory speech just yet. "There's this cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed little girl who comes back year after year and brings her own fishing pole, baits her own hook, and takes the fish off her hook after catching them," says organizer Debora Rolland. "The boys need to watch and take note." Kids cast from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ohio & Erie Canal's Towpath Trail (State Route 93 and Carnegie Avenue in Akron). Admission is free. Pump It Up
It's not just about crushing the puny competition at the Bodybuilding and Figure Championships . It's also about looking good! "I love the feeling of being onstage and seeing the transformation of my physique," says Shiloe Steinmetz, last year's champ, who'll defend his title at Saturday's contest. Watch out for the masters division, which includes folks over 35, says organizer Lave Liberman. "These [contestants] look like they've been drinking out of the fountain of youth," he says. Steinmetz, 33, is a few years away from master status, but he's staying focused: "I have the drive and discipline to compete way beyond my masters years." Preliminaries start at 11 a.m. (admission is $12) and finals begin at 6 p.m. ($25) at Lakewood Civic Auditorium, 14100 Franklin Avenue in Lakewood; call 440-942-5634. -- Lucy McKernan
