First Night Akron

Many of us bring in the New Year drinking ourselves silly at any number of local bars, but there’s also a lot of great music to enjoy and celebrate 2014. Tonight, the Akron Civic Theater hosts a night of local music from Akron’s own Shivering Timbers, who, with the addition of a new drummer, are playing with a new energy and fervor. They still have the haunting melodies of Sarah Benn and the distorted elegance of husband Jayson Benn’s guitar but they now have a booming energy that was not there a year ago. Add to that the Akron Symphony Gospel with the Symphony Choir and Hard Days Night, a Beatles Tribute Band, and you have one jam-packed night certain to satisfy all. The show starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $10. (Hoffman)
