Floodwood/JP & the Chatfield Boys

When: Fri., Sept. 6, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $12 ADV, $15 DOS
Patching themselves into the bluegrass revival (“newgrass”?) under way these days, Floodwood offers an energetic show. At Summer Camp Music Festival this summer, the guys opened their set with “I Know You Rider,” doffing their collective cap to the traditions that came before them. From there, the set maintained a danceable wave throughout. The band’s chops are very much on display at all times - the interplay between drums, violin and banjo is tight. Take the musical breakdown during “In the Gravel Yard,” for instance. After dipping out of the vocal refrain, the guys set to work on an awesome little ditty, expanding it further and further as the song goes on. There’s a wealth of shows up on archive.org, so cast an ear toward the Internet and enjoy. (Sandy)
