Here's your heads-up to listen for a medley of '60s-inspired garage rock, pop, and soul tonight, when New Jersey's Black Hollies command the Beachland stage. But bassist Justin Angelo has a more ethereal take on the foursome's tunes. "One time, we were asked what we sound like, and I just happened to be in the right frame of mind to describe it," he says. "It sounds like you were listening to old northern-soul 45s in a lavender grove, while viewing through a kaleidoscope." Heavy, man. The four-year-old band is on its first-ever tour as they pimp their album Casting Shadows, its raucous lineup of catchy psychedelic-pop tracks infused with frenzied guitar licks and vocal reverb. To some fans, it's a fitting complement to a frolic in the lavender. "It's a very sexual album," says Angelo. "I wanted to capture the elements of intimate moments — the ones you never get back, when everything is perfect." The show starts at 9 tonight at the Beachland Ballroom, 11571 Waterloo Road.
