Led by spunky singer Shirley Manson (no relation to Goth rocker Marilyn), this Madison, Wis.-based alt-rock super group of sorts delivered a good number of singles in the ’90s. Anchored by drummer and uber-producer Butch Vig, the band embraced both electronica and hard rock, resulting in a strange hybrid that benefited from the fact that tracks like “Stupid Girl” and “Only Happy When It Rains” were so darn catchy. The band was on and off hiatus throughout the ’00s but reemerged last year to issue Not Your Kind of People, an album of up-tempo tunes that’s so high energy, it would fit on commercial radio next to the latest tune by someone like Pink (and that’s meant as a compliment).
