Without giving away the ending, Ramona DuBarry says that Miss Saigon is definitely not "date material." "I saw a pamphlet [about the show] that said, 'Friday night! Date night! Buy one [ticket], get one free!' and I'm like thinking, I don't know if I would want to go on a date to that," says DuBarry, who plays prostitute Gigi in the musical. Set in 1975, shortly before the U.S. evacuation of Saigon, the show is about an American soldier and his Vietnamese lover torn apart by the war. "[Gigi] is very poignant," says DuBarry. "Doing what [the hookers] do by selling their bodies, that's not who they [really] are. They're simply women who want to be free." Miss Saigon is at the State Theatre (1519 Euclid Avenue) Tuesday through December 19. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20 to $55; call 216-241-6000. -- Cris Glaser
