Phoenix Coffee turns into a canine-welcoming café at its weekly Take Your Owner Out for Coffee Dog-Friendly Sundays. Barrista Bonnie Kaczor says the sight of dogs lapping up bowls of water alongside owners sipping java is a common one in Europe. “It’s an absolutely fun thing, because it’s common ground with people and their dogs,” she says. “Everyone has been amused by it all.”

The café provides water bowls for the dogs. But if you really want to pamper your pooch, says Kaczor, buy him a honey-flavored Mischief Munchies dog biscuit. “They look like something a human being would eat.” (Proceeds benefit the South Euclid Humane Society and University Hospitals’ Pet Pals program.) The coffee shop enforces just one rule: No biting. “So far, everyone has been well-behaved,” says Kaczor. “But if someone barks too much or is antagonistic to the other animals, they will be shown the door.” We hope she’s talking about the dogs.
