Here's the Deal

Just Euchre begins a new nine-week season tonight at Sullivan’s, and the league is looking for a few good card players. The old-school game is relatively easy to pick up: You and a partner square off against another two-member team. Only cards between nines and aces are used. Each player is dealt five. The remaining four cards are placed in the middle of the table, with the top card facing up. Players then take turns picking up cards of equal value and discarding unwanted ones. Play offs commence the final week, when one team will be crowned the season champ.

The league was created by the Burning River Sports Association in 2003. When the organization folded last year, player Mark Lindhurst rounded up fellow euchre fans for weekly outings. “Euchre is huge,” he says. “I had to keep it going.”
