It's All Downhill

Ski masters teach novices how to shush Boston Mills.

Lyn Lucius has heard it all before: Skiing is too hard, too much work, too dangerous. But she's not buying the excuses for today's Learn to Ski lessons. "It's not as hard as people think. I learned to ski on ice," says Lucius, a member of the Cleveland Metro Ski Council. "The falls come with it, but you pick it up and you learn it."After getting turned on by the cold-weather sport, Lucius has joined (with? or together?) members of 25 ski clubs to spearhead the beginners' course, which trains first-timers in skiing and snowboarding. If that's not enough to get you out on the slopes, there are pastries, hot chocolate, and a raffle for prizes beforehand. "Even if you're scared, what's great about coming out is having all these people there to help get you in the right boots, on the right skis, get your equipment on, and get you to the lessons," says Lucius. "You hear people complaining all over this area about winter. I'm in a group with 8,000 people who are excited about winter coming." Learn to ski at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today at Boston Mills, 7100 Riverview Road in Peninsula. Fee is $40. Call 330-467-2242 or visit www.skicleveland.com.
