Think of the Cleveland Disc Association's Ultimate league as football without the bone-crunching tackles. "It's technically a no-contact sport," says co-commissioner Rima Viliamas. The summer league meets weekly and is made up of 20 coed teams, each consisting of 15 to 20 players.

During games, seven players from each side try to move the disc up the field, "though you can't run with the Frisbee," Viliamas explains. In other words, it's a passing game. And one that comes with its own set of rules. Not that there's anyone there to enforce them. Says Viliamas: "People serve as their own refs." Game time is 7 p.m. Thursday at Hawken Upper School Fields, 12465 County Line Road in Gates Mills. Fee is $45 for the season. Call 216-469-0995 for more info. -- Chris Miller

The Tribe hands out mini Martinezes this weekend.

SAT 6/25

At Saturday's Victor Martinez Bobblehead giveaway, the Tribe's All-Star catcher becomes the latest Indian to become a mini-collectible with a super-huge noggin. The first 20,000 fans through the Jake's gates -- to watch the Tribe take on the Cincinnati Reds -- score a bobble. For fans, it's another opportunity to make some quick cash on eBay; for Martinez, who recently signed a long-term extension with the club, it's a sign that he'll be around for a while. "I'm more than happy [with] the new deal," he says. Hopefully, he'll be just as pleased with the souvenir. Turns out, Martinez was previously 'headed during his stint with the Akron Aeros a couple years ago. "I just hope it looks a little more like me [this time]," he laughs. Game time is 7 p.m. at Jacobs Field, 2401 Ontario Street. Tickets are $6 to $60; call 216-420-4200. -- Steve Albanese

Eastlake's Cleveland Envy

THU 6/23

"We were sitting around one day and decided to celebrate everything that rocks about Cleveland," recalls Lake County Captains spokesperson Arica Kress. Minds came together and -- voilà! -- Thursday's Cleveland Rocks Night at Classic Park was born. In addition to minor-league baseball action (the Captains take on the Delmarva Shorebirds), there'll be ticket giveaways (to House of Blues and other Cleveland venues), autograph sessions with Browns players, a performance by the Cavs' dance team, and appearances by local sports fanatics, including Big Dawg. It starts at 7:05 p.m. at Classic Park, 35300 Vine Street in Eastlake. Tickets are $5 to $8; call 440-954-9467. -- Chad Felton
