Langhorne Slim & the Law/Oldboy

When: Fri., March 29, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $12
Langhorne Slim’s most recent album, The Way We Move, is nearly a year old now. But Slim is still getting some mileage out of it. Just this month, he and his band The Law came back from a sold-out European tour where he opened for The Lumineers. Upon returning to the States, he kicked off a 7-week tour that commenced with an appearance on Conan, where he performed the title track. The success is long overdue for Slim, a terrific songwriter whose recording career stretches back a decade. Slim has a distinctly raspy, upper-register voice that lends itself particularly well to The Way We Move’s manic, alt-folk tunes. “Bad Luck” comes off as a Pogues-like dirge and “Salvation” has all the righteous exuberance as anything by Mumford and Sons. And while Slim doesn’t exactly fit the mold of what’s popular in the singer-songwriter realm these days (fans of Jason Mraz and John Mayer will wanna stay clear), he’s a real talent who’s only now getting his due.
