Meet Me at the Maltz

Cleveland clothing designer Valerie Mayen, best known for her unceremonious dismissal from Season 8 of Project Runway, has eclipsed her brush with primetime glory in her latest venture, clothing company Yellowcake. Mayen’s creations marry arresting geometric prints influenced by her Guatemalan heritage with wearable, figure-flattering tailoring. The seamstress says her label emulates the virtues of its eponymous dessert: “sweet” and “classic.” Mayen will share her designs and fashion expertise as a featured speaker at the Maltz Museum’s ongoing “Meet Me at the Maltz” series, which showcases local personalities who negotiate cultural identity through art. Mayen will go on at 7 p.m., but get there early for free wine and cheese. (Hannah Franklin)
