Meet the DJ

Five questions for Brent Still Life

DJ Brent Still Life (29-year-old Clevelander Brent Rosplock) spins everything from drum 'n' bass and garage to house and downtempo. But lately he's been playing a lot of dubstep, and it's made his weekly Friday gigs at Touch one of the most popular in town. "It constantly changes," he says. "But I usually [start with] something at a slower tempo or laidback groove since it's a four-hour set." — Michael Gallucci

What song do you never leave home without?

High Contrast's "Make It Tonight."

What's the craziest thing you've ever seen on the dance floor?

Someone mistook the dance floor for a bathroom when I was a resident at Spy Bar a few years back.

Describe a typical set on a good night.

A good set for me is one that tries to push new sounds and styles, but also includes [songs] people know or can identify with. I like to progress in tempo, energy, and mood throughout the night. I just try to have fun and pay attention to what people enjoy and react to.

Is there a song in your set that you love that nobody else gets?

An Italian producer named Phonat put a song out a few years ago, "Learn to Recycle," that spans three tempos and changes direction a lot. I think it's amazing, but people get confused.

Name one song that defines you.

Air's "La Femme D'argent."

Brent Still Life spins at 10 p.m. Friday at Touch Supper Club, 2710 Lorain Ave. Admission is free. Call 216-631-5200 or visit touchohiocity.com for more info.
