Four questions for Love and Light

Love and Light have been making music together for less than a year. But the Nevada duo have become two of the nation's most popular glitch-hop and dubstep DJs in that short time. Matt Madonna and Ryan Anderson's roots are in house and trance music, but a life-changing experience at the Burning Man festival a few years back put them on a different path. "Our tastes were permanently changed from there," says Madonna. — Michael Gallucci

How do you start off a set?

We like to start the night off with a bang, let people know what they are getting into right away. We like to initialize our sets with something recognizable — something with a good rhythm and a solid groove for people to find — and build from there. The more attention we can grab right out of the gate, the easier it is to build on that energy and the more control we have.

What's the craziest thing you've ever seen on the dance floor?

A girl completely involved in a pagan, medieval, dry-humping dance-a-thon with the dirty, nasty floor of a club.

What's your favorite song right now?

An original called "The Light We Bring." It's a freakishly clean, midtempo smasher — a fluid blend of our original crunk sound, mixed with 1920s jazz and samples from Rick James, James Brown, and Haddaway.

Describe a typical set on a good night.

One that captivates people from beginning to end and doesn't become boring. There is a constant energy exchange going on throughout a night, and a good night entails both [us] and the crowd sharing a symbiosis of love and happiness, emotion, dancing, and joy.

Love and Light spin at 9 p.m. Monday at B-Side Liquor Lounge, 2785 Euclid Hts. Blvd., Cleveland Hts. Admission: $5 and $7. Call 216-932-1966 or visit bsideliquorlounge.com for more info.
