Graydar is the brainchild of two local gray-haired DJs, MisterBradleyP (Brad Petty) and Peter PleasureCruise (Peter Greilis). Graydar fill their sets with late-'70s disco 12-inches, early-'80s electro-funk, and modern-day nu-disco cuts. "When the crowd gives talented DJs a chance, and resists making requests, they will usually be more fulfilled in the long run," says MisterBradleyP. — Michael Gallucci
What song do you never leave home without?
Gichy Dan's "Beachwood #9 — Cowboys & Gangsters." It has a sick looping bass line, and there are a bunch of great edits of it on vinyl and digital.
What's your guaranteed party starter?
I have a white-label 12-inch of the O'Jays' "I Love Music" renamed "This Music Pt. 2" that is ... simply amazing.
Is there a song you love that no one else gets?
I try to not to be too preachy with my music, but some songs I will play until the crowds get them are "Galaxy" by War, Lonnie Liston Smith's "Expansions," and Alicia Myers' "I Want to Thank You." A lot of people used to hearing Lady Gaga in the clubs just don't get these sounds.
Name one song that defines you.
I enjoy closing sets with the 12-inch mix of Paul McCartney & Wings' "Goodnight Tonight." It's disco, it's the dude from the Beatles, it's talking about goodnight at bar-closing time, and it's talking about love. All these things play a part in my life and my DJ sets.Graydar spin at 10 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Luxe, 6605 Detroit Ave. Admission is free. Call 216-920-0600 or visit luxecleveland.com.
