If you think too hard about local artist Olga Ziemskas latest exhibit,
Mirror Matter, youll probably end up with a migraine. The subject centers on the theory of something called a mirror world of matter. Ziemskas installations -- which are part of the Museum of Contemporary Arts Wendy L. Moore Emerging Artist Series -- probe the relationship between humanity and nature. She uses things that literally mirror matter, in a sense, says curator Megan Lykins. She is toying with the visible and invisible to draw out the connection that we have to nature. The idea is to enrich your experience as a human by finding these connections.
It may sound heavy and totally confusing, but the concepts are explored from an artists -- rather than a physicists -- perspective. The five works are made out of glass and crystal. Magnets, printed images, and plaster casts also figure into the mix. Theres even a recording of ambient soundscapes on continuous loop to guide spectators through the show. The artist is really making it an immersive experience for the viewer, says Lykins. Its really like an environment.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: June 8. Continues through Aug. 19
