Movie with a Message

When: Wed., June 18 2014
Boys Don’t Cry generated a good amount of buzz when it initially came out in 1999. B ased on a true story about a tragic murder, it’s difficult to sit through. And yet it was so well received at the time that Hilary Swank won an Oscar for her portrayal of Brandon Teena, a trans man who was brutally beaten, raped and murdered by his male friends. The film screens tonight at 7 as part of the Maltz Museum’s Begin the Conversation series. Jacob Nash, founder and president of the board at Margie’s Hope, leads a brief discussion following the movie. Tickets are $5. (Niesel)
