Opening: The Guilt Trip

Nothing sounds as horrible to an adult man as spending an eight-day trip in a car with his obsessive mother. But that’s what inventor Andy Brewster (Seth Rogen) decides to do in a furtive attempt to reunite his single mother Joyce (Barbra Streisand) with her teenage love interest. During a majority of the drive, Joyce frequently nags Brewster, only to receive apathetic responses from him until a climactic argument results in a change of heart and Andy develops a newfound appreciation of Joyce's seemingly useless advice. An unlikely pair, Rogen and Streisand work well together and rattle off a number of “mom” jokes and witty one-liners. Not surprisingly, Streisand plays the role of an incessantly overbearing mother quite well and is even able to relate several embarrassing anecdotes (one of the most notable ones was about Brewster’s “purple penis”). Despite its predictable plot, The Guilt Trip will leave you in a feel good mood.
