Hitchcock Sacha Gervasi's biopic about director Alfred Hitchock attempts to dramatize what was going on behind the scenes while Hitchcock filmed Psycho, the cinematic benchmark that would become his most popular film. The movie centers on the relationship between "Hitch" (Anthony Hopkins), as he was affectionately called, and his wife, Alma (Helen Mirren). While the film's exploration of the genesis of Psycho is incredibly intriguing and handled in such a way as to spur our interest, the depiction of the relationship between Hitch and his wife comes off as tawdry and insignificant. Dream sequences in which Hitch talks to the serial killer upon whose life Psycho is based also cheapen the film. This is a great topic that Gervasi and screenwriter John J. McLaughlin simply mishandle. —Jeff Niesel
