With Prong. Thursday, February 23, at Peabody's Down Under.

Music videos haven't always been kind to Overkill. Beavis and Butt-head brutalized the New Jersey band's "Hello From the Gutter" clip, suggesting that the animated skull that soars between scenes should "fly into a video that doesn't suck." As the final insult, Beavis imitated singer Bobby Blitz's pinched falsetto, robbing the cackled closing line "We've been expecting you" of its sinister impact.

A decade later, VH-1 Classic's Metal Mania placed Overkill's classic cuts in heavy rotation, introducing a new generation to the turbulent thrasher "Elimination" and the singsong anthem "In Union We Stand." Unlike its peers on the program -- such monsters of rock as Anthrax, Metallica, and Slayer -- Overkill never changed its style. From its 1985 debut, Feel the Fire, to last year's ReliXIV, every album features a neon-green font on the cover, rapid-fire riffs, sprint-paced drums, and Blitz's signature stuck-pig squeal.

Fellow old-school act Prong, whose "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" inspired Beavis and Butt-head to create a memorably tragicomic dance step, shares the bill.
