PANEL DISCUSSION: Do Words Kill? Hate Speech, Propaganda and Incitement to Genocide
When: Wed., March 11, 7-9 p.m. 2015
Presented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
What makes hate speech dangerous and when does it cross the line to incitement to violence? This panel program addresses new thinking on the various kinds of speech in both free and unfree societies; the hallmarks of “dangerous speech;” the role of context; and what can be done to counter potentially damaging speech without restricting freedom of expression. Program includes admission to the Maltz Museum, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early to see the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibition, State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda.
