Papadosio/Broccoli Samurai

They’ve been busy as hell the past few years, these Papadosio guys. And why not? They caught the electronic jam wave pretty early -- in Athens, Ohio, no less -- and they’ve become shepherds of the scene. Based now in Asheville, N.C., Papadosio have dropped several fine albums since sort of revitalizing themselves on 2012’s double-disc T.E.T.I.O.S.. This year’s release, Pattern Integrities, strips things down to a nice eight tracks, but each of them packs a polyrhythmic punch. Opener “Each and Every Wave” courses through a variety of moods and atmospheres -- with wobbly bass lines keeping things fun on the back end of the song -- while tunes like “Mr. Turtle’s Cloud Kingdom” and “Drift” evoke chilled-out summer days (and, not for nothing, the trippy sonic landscapes of classic video game music).
