Thrashers electrify audiences to keep college station on the air.

Thrash-metalheads Ringworm and Cellbound headline tonight's WJCU 2008 Radiothon Concert to keep John Carroll University's campus radio station on the air for another year. Fellow rockers Soulless and Ground Zero follow up with a fund-raiser next week that also features opening acts Embalmer, MSOD, Lotus Pedal, and the Suede Brothers. The station hopes to drum up $40,000 from the two shows. "We don't want to be harpies. But if the check doesn't come in the mail, what are we going to do?" asks Mark Krieger, the station's general manager. "We'll have to eat beans out of the can rather than go out to dinner." The concerts are at 6:30 p.m. today at the Beachland, 15711 Waterloo Road, and Friday, February 22, at the Jigsaw, 5324 State Road. Admission is $7. Call 216-397-4438 or visit www.wjcu.org.
