Last month, a new 35mm print of the extremely rare Chantal Akerman film Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, a movie that critic J. Hoberman has said "changed the face of contemporary European cinema" upon its 1975 release, showed for a week at New York's Film Forum. Now, the new print is coming to the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque (11141 East Blvd., 216.421.7450) for two showings. The Belgium film stars Delphine Seyrig as a middle-aged woman who goes about her daily life like clockwork, until a break in her routine sends everything in disarray. More than three hours long, Akerman's film has rarely screened since its initial release and is not available on DVD. It shows at the Cinematheque at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 12, and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, February 15. Tickets: $8.
The Cleveland International Film Festival hosts two more "film feast" events before the festival commences on March 19 at Tower City Cinemas. The first, dubbed Countdown to the Oscars, features Fox News 8 entertainment reporter David "the Mossman" Moss and WKNR film critic Ray Justavick discussing the upcoming Academy Awards and sharing their behind-the-scenes stories, whatever that might mean. It takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, at the Tremont eatery Momocho (1835 Fulton Rd.). Wine, hors d'oeuvres (including the restaurant's famed guacamole dip) and desserts will be served. Tickets: $50. The second event is called Talk Radio, and it's hosted by CIFF board member Dave Ream, who'll "interview the interviewer" and talk to WCPN/WVIZ Around Noon/Applause personality Dee Perry at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, at Shaheen Modern and Contemporary Art (740 W. The Academy Awards take place in perpetually sunny California on Sunday, February 22, but you can walk down a Cleveland carpet at Road to the Red Carpet: A Hollywood Black Tie Affair, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Film Commission at House of Blues (308 Euclid Ave.) the night of the Oscars. You can watch the broadcast on the club's large- screen TVs and bid on auction items like Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction tickets and a My Name Is Earl poster, signed by the TV show's entire cast.
