Tower City Cinemas hosts a benefit screening of Running the Sahara, a documentary about three ultra-marathon runners who whimsically decided to embark on an 111-day, 4,300 mile jaunt across the African desert. In the film, the runners wake up early to run and then rest during the heat of the day before running again into the evening. It's a grueling journey, as they suffer from dehydration and exhaustion, and encounter myriad other problems by crossing the boundaries of numerous different countries. Charlie Engle, who, along with Taiwanese Kevin Lin and Canadian Ray Zahab, is one of the runners featured in the film, will attend the screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, and answer questions afterward. As part of its Black History Month celebration, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will show Cadillac Records, the Chess Records biopic that came out late last year, at 7 p.m. Monday, February 23. It stars Beyoncé Knowles, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody and Mos Def in the story of how Leonard Chess (Brody) built the Chicago-based blues label from the ground up. A half hour prior to the screening, director Darnell Martin (Oz, ER, Their Eyes Were Watching God) will introduce the movie and answer questions. The event is free, but a reservation is required. The Ohio Film Office has launched a video contest, the Ohio Film Music Video Challenge. Ohio-based filmmakers have three weeks (starting February 18) to create a concept for a music video with a musical act and post the result on YouTube. Winners get prizes from Ante Up Audio, Gregory Wilson Photo, Hard Rock Café, House of Blues, Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade, KP Photo, Marengo Luxury Spa, Pickwick & Frolic Restaurant & Club, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Case Western Reserve University Professor Emeritus of English and Film Dr. Louis D. Giannetti will introduce the restored version of David Lean's epic film Lawrence of Arabia at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque (11141 East Blvd.) at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 22. Tickets: $8.
