The band with the backward video comes to town.

If you haven’t seen the video for Mute Math’s “Typical,” look it up on YouTube right now. The New Orleans rockers perform the song in reverse -- a feat they sorta pulled off live last month on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show. While it’s easy to tag the band as this season’s OK Go (newbies make a splash with a gimmicky clip), there’s more substance running through Mute Math’s grooves. Its self-titled debut blends new-wave synth bleeps, U2-style riffs, and enough rafter-shaking anthems to fill a medium-size concert hall. There’s even room for an occasional curveball (like random electronic noise bursts), which keeps listeners guessing.
