Today’s the final day for downtown Akron’s Rib, White & Blue Fest at Lock 3 Park. With eight rib vendors on hand (including last year’s sauce and slab champ, the Carolina Rib King), you can expect some serious feasting. Providing the dinner music: assorted tribute bands and the Akron Symphony Orchestra. The event — NEO’s largest free rib burn-off — concludes with a 9:45 p.m. fireworks display. Deputy mayor Dave Lieberth says it’s not just about the food and music but the family-friendly vibe. “We are careful what is displayed and what is offered so that you can bring your family,” he says. “It’s very safe.” And, we might add, it tastes good too.
