(that's his birthday, in case you're wondering just what the hell is up with the goofy title). He's treading familiar territory rock and roll-wise, as well, turning the amps to 11 and unleashing hell on the new millennium, which, unsurprisingly, seems to have made a U-turn back to the '80s for ol' Sam. With that whole Van Halen thing comfortably behind him now (who woulda thought Sammy would get the last laugh outta that fracas?) and a legion of fans screaming out for "Mas Tequila," Hagar is one well-coiffed '80s dude who's yet to become a Behind the Music
tragedy. The new set of songs alternates between dumb house rockers such as "Shaka Doobie" and "Serious Juju" and those dead-serious, fist-raising anthems the tequila entrepreneur likes to throw onto every album (Ten 13
's contribution to this canon is "Tropic of Capricorn"). But, hey, Hagar seems to be enjoying his self-proclaimed Phoenix act. He kicked off The NFL Today
this season with a live concert, his "Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash" tour launched in Phoenix a couple of months ago, and Ten 13
is on his own Cabo Wabo Music label. Expect plenty of Red Rockin' favorites, including a few from the Van Hagar songbook, when Hagar hits the area for a pair of dates to commemorate the new year with the totally awesome sounds of yesterday.
