Scott Weiland

When: Wed., March 20, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $25-$30
Scott Weiland’s on-and-off-again relationship with Stone Temple Pilots, the grunge band he helped form in the late ’80s in San Diego, is now off again. Just last month, the rest of the guys in a band issued a statement that they were “terminating” him. Weiland, for his part, has maintained he’s still in the band. Regardless, Weiland, who has issued a couple of bluesy solo albums over the years, plans to play STP favs for this show, which will focus on material from 1992’s Core and 1994’s Purple, albums that delivered a few chart topping singles back in the day. (Hearing old STP tune is a whole lot better than if Weiland had decided to sing tracks from his ill-conceived 2011 Christmas album, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year). The guy’s got rock star swagger (and, like many rock stars before him, has battled substance abuse issues over the years so you never know what you’ll get out of him). One blogger wrote that he seemed “high or drunk” at one of the tour’s first dates where he was still rehearsing and prepping his backing band, The Wildabouts. With any luck, he’ll have the set (and his head) sorted out by the time he hits town. (Jeff Niesel)
