Seniors Day

When: Sat., July 20, 4:30 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
When you’re half a century old, it should be hard for you to “get up” like you used to when it comes to competitive sports. More than 14,000 older ladies and gentlemen will flock to Cleveland — in what is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors — to show that the will in a champion’s heart doesn’t fade in the golden years. The 2013 National Senior Games, an event that features men and women that are “over the hump” but still have the edge to compete in 19 different medal-earning sports. Grandmas and grandpas 50 and older will show off classic form in less intensive events like golf (duh) and shuffle board (double duh), but those that have maintained top physical fitness can also participate in a triathlon. The event kicks off today at 4:30 p.m. with a free-to-attend opening ceremony that features the lighting of the Senior Games Torch, as well as live music from Rusted Root and the Danger Brothers.
