Koji Masunari’s directorial debut Welcome to the Space Show centers on a group of kids who encounter one of the strangest versions yet of extraterrestrial life — in the form of an injured dog, which turns out to be an outer-space botanist searching for wasabi root. As a result, the kids get whisked away to the dark side of the moon, where they encounter a strange and psychedelic space colony: one part visual masterpiece and one part acid trip. The jumble of space creatures in this colony is full of life, excitement and humor, all set against a theme song sung by UK pop anomaly Susan Boyle. The film screens tonight at 7 at the Cedar Lee Theatre. Tickets are $9. (Stoops)
