Science geeks dubbed the Centaur rocket "America's workhorse in space." At today's Rockets' Red Glare, learn how NASA developed the massive missile to explore the solar system and revolutionize global communications. Since its 1963 launch, the Centaur has been teamed with the Atlas rocket to send the Surveyor spacecraft to the moon. It's even escorted orbiting observatories to study alien galaxies and (helped survey?) surveyed the heavens to pinpoint sources of cosmic and gamma rays. How cool is that?
