TOP PICK – VIDEO GAME

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon

(D3)

There aren't too many things as much fun on this planet as blowing up giant bugs with turbo-charged weapons. The latest game in this series (for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) doesn't waste any time jumping into the action. In fact, we have no clue how or why the ants, spiders, and whatever those creepy things with the long legs are even got here. Grab a friend, because the co-op is the best way to fight the pests.

Elvira's Movie Macabre

(Entertainment One)

The cleavage-sporting (and seemingly ageless) vampire hostess returned to TV last year when she rebooted her 1980s Movie Macabre series. The first two DVDs include four episodes from the new show. Elvira screens old monster movies (Night of the Living Dead and I Eat Your Skin are on one disc, The Satanic Rites of Dracula and The Werewolf of Washington are on the other) and cracks bad jokes throughout. Just like the old days.

DVD

Louie: Season 1

(Twentieth Century Fox)

The first season of TV's funniest new comedy is gathered on this two-disc set, which pairs all 13 episodes with some deleted scenes, unused sketches, and commentary by star Louis C.K. Ricky Gervais' guest spots (as the world's most insensitive doctor) are great, but Louis C.K. is the real star here, hilarious in both the onstage comedy-club pieces and as a single dad who's not really sure he's cut out to be a father.

CD

Sebadoh: Bakesale: Deluxe Edition

(Sub Pop)

Lou Barlow's post-Dinosaur Jr. band became low-fi heroes without really doing much. Their songs rarely muster enough energy to stand out, and Barlow's flat delivery certainly doesn't help. But on their 1994 album Sebadoh found the sweet spot, loading up on hooks and passion. This two-CD reissue adds B-sides, leftovers, and EP tracks for a complete profile of the group's most fertile era.

TV

Whisker Wars

(IFC)

Did you know there's a World Championship Competition for facial-hair growing? Would you be surprised to hear that it's held in Norway each year? This new seven-episode series follows a group of men on their way to hairy glory. You'll learn everything you need to know about the contest – which is divided into five categories for beards and mustaches – and the manly men who enter it. It premieres at 11 p.m. Friday.
