Straight Outta Kingston

In The Harder They Come, Jimmy Cliff stars as a singer who becomes an outlaw after he moves to the big city and his record label screws him over. When it originally came out 40 years ago, the film helped launch the career of Cliff, who would go on to become a reggae icon. It’s currently on the revival circuit, and its distributor, Xenon Pictures, has issued a restored and re-mastered print (and will release the movie on Blu-ray later this year). A cult classic, it also helped introduce the world to reggae music and the song’s title track became one of Cliff’s biggest hits. It shows at 7:30 tonight at the Cedar Lee Theatre. Tickets are $10.
