The Doctor's In

Everybody's favorite kid-lit MD prescribes a dose of fantasy in Ohio City production.

Nobody grows too old for Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. That's why the Near West Theatre production of Seussical Jr. is aimed at audiences of all ages — but especially kids who've been reading about Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and the folks down in Whoville. "It's amazing how goofy and silly and fun they can be," says Stephanie Morrison-Hrbek, who doubles as the show's director and choreographer. "We want to help kids just tap in, let loose, and take risks. This show has it all."For the play, 39 thesps from 9 to 13 years old have been rehearsing after school for six weeks to fine-tune their portrayals of fish and jungle creatures. They've also memorized a medley of colorful tunes to bring Seuss' fantasyland to life. "There really is a universality to Dr. Seuss," says Morrison-Hrbek. "So it's a no-brainer, tapping into everyone's feelings about it." Curtain times are at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the St. Patrick Club Building, 3606 Bridge Avenue in Ohio City. Tickets are $6.
