The third installment of the Fabulous Food Show will take over the I-X Center from Friday, November 14, through Sunday, November 16. Food celebs Paula Deen, Guy Fieri, Curtis Stone and Jason Roberts will be on hand to present cooking demos and sign autographs. Homegrown stars Michael Symon, Rocco Whalen and Dante Boccuzzi, among others, also will take part in the popular three-day event. Marianne Frantz and the Cleveland Wine School will showcase hundreds of wines, beers and spirits in the Grand Tasting Pavilion. New this year is the Best Sous Chef competition, which pits Pier W's Jack Ahern against Momocho's Justin Herl in a battle MC'd by Iron Chef Symon. Tickets: $25 ($27.50 day of show). Speaking of Symon: The Cleveland-based superchef continues to expand his empire. With ROAST (1114 Washington Blvd., Detroit, 313.961.2500, bookcadillacwestin.com) firing on all cylinders, Symon is reporting the likelihood of yet another project. By 2010, Symon hopes to open his second ROAST in the glitzy Residences at Hotel Palomar, a multimillion-dollar mixed-use development going up in Milwaukee. The homage to heritage meats, as Symon describes the concept, is good enough to clone. "There are only so many great concepts out there," Symon told me via cell phone from Detroit, "and ROAST is one of them." To see what the buzz is about, head to Detroit for an order of the "roasted beast of the day," which spins to golden-brown perfection on a highly visible spit.
The Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Rd., 216.383.1124, beachlandballroom.com) is well-known for its tasty licks. Soon, it hopes to be recognized for its tasty vittles. The club's recently launched Sunday brunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features a nice mix of updated classics and creative vegetarian and vegan breakfast items. Chef Kimberly Homan (Velocity, Snicker's, Signature of Solon) presides over the weekly event, serving popular items like crme brulee French toast, breakfast empanadas, gaucho steak and eggs, and scrambled tofu with scallions. Rounding out the festivities are bloody marys, sangria and guest DJs.
According to chef-partner Pete Joyce, Bistro on Lincoln Park (2391 W. 11th St., 216.862.2969, bistroonlincolnpark.com) will open in the old Sage Bistro spot within two weeks. More on this soon.
