The Radiators

Saturday, August 19, at the Grog Shop.

Attend a Radiators show. You've never heard anything like it. And you'll never hear anything like it again. The Radiators don't do the same show night after night, even on the same tour. It'd be a betrayal of their fans. They can pull this off because with their latest disc, Dreaming Out Loud, they have not only nine CDs of original tunes -- rock filtered through New Orleans jazz-funk and swamp-boogie -- but also a seemingly bottomless well of covers from which they can draw (Bob Dylan, Beatles, and the Rolling Stones are the meat and potatoes for that side of the band).

The Crescent City-based Radiators are a jam band in the finest tradition of Little Feat, the Allman Brothers, or even the Grateful Dead -- a kind of Dr. John-meets-Jerry Garcia. They've persisted through troubles and floods for 28 years without enduring a single lineup change. It's still the same five guys, all from different New Orleans bands, who one night got together in a basement and played the blues for five hours straight. And it's still as fresh today as it was then.
