Someone call the Kinks! The Tour of Brotherly Love, featuring the Black Crowes and Oasis, is a rock and roll caravan designed around one of popular music's longstanding traditions: feuding brothers. And these two groups -- both of which came to prominence by playing recycled riffs, taking plenty of drugs, and brandishing attitude to spare -- have upheld the guitar-bashing tradition perfected by the Kinky Davies brothers in the '60s (which, by the way, is the decade artistically favored by both of these bands). Chris and Rich Robinson of the Crowes have been known to go at it backstage and in the studio in classic fisticuff fashion. The Gallagher brothers (Liam and Noel) of Oasis, however, have brought the action front and center. Past stage antics have included actual fights, walk-offs, and insults hurled at each other. Oasis once even did part of a U.S. tour without singer Liam, who had temporarily quit and returned to England. Personally, we're hoping for some big-time tag-team wrestling, with the two sets of brothers squaring off against each other. Unfortunately, we'll probably get stuck with a sludgy retro-jam freakout from the Crowes (whose new album, Lions, is virtually unlistenable, thanks to Don Was's soul-sucking production) and a tuneless, hurried performance from Oasis (still touring in support of last winter's live album, Familiar to Millions). Also on board for this night of sibling rivalry are the Langdon boys (Antony and Royson) of Spacehog. But unlike their tourmates, who have three good albums between them, these dreadful Bowie clones offer absolutely no reason to get to the show early. Someone really should have called the Kinks.
