Their Ship Has Come In

Pennsylvania foursome shoots up the ladder of success with CD, tour, and a little bit of terrestrial airplay.

The recent success of Philadelphia's American Speedway is nothing short of a miracle, considering the riff-rock quartet is only a year old. In a little more than 12 months, the group has mounted a tour and dropped its debut album, Ship of Fools, which gets loads of airplay on Sirius radio channel 29. While the disc rolls through plenty of AC/DC-like guitar licks and hi-NRG choruses, its attitude matches the band's outlook on hard-drinking, foot-stomping rock and roll. "Writing the record wasn't rocket science. The first 10 songs on the record were the first 10 songs we wrote," laughs Chris Callahan, the band's drummer. "We didn't want to record anything that we couldn't do live." Hear for yourself at 9 tonight at the Jigsaw Saloon & Stage, 5324 State Road in Parma. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
