Rust and Bone

Jacques Audiard’s new film doesn’t sustain the intensity of his previous film, 2009’s epic The Prophet, but it still has some terrific moments and features excellent performances from Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts.

Zero Dark Thirty

Kathryn Bigelow’s drama about the pursuit of terrorists Osama Bin Laden opens with a riveting scene in which CIA agent Dan (Jason Clarke) tortures a suspected terrorist he thinks might have ties to Bin Laden. Dan completely humiliates the guy and eventually wears him down, obtaining a key piece of info about Bin Laden’s courier in the process. The intensity never lets up and Jessica Chastain is terrific as Maya, the CIA investigators who relentlessly pursues the terrorist.

David Bowie
