Train of Love: A Tribute to Johnny Cash

While the Man in Black's recent take on Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" may sound like blasphemy to die-hard fans, Cash aficionados are about to get some salvation. Though Cash's declining health has made touring unlikely, local country crooner Terry Lee Goffee offers the next best thing with his wonderful tribute "Train of Love," which premieres in Cleveland this Friday at the Beachland. Half-concert, half-stage show, the two-hour performance features Goffee giving a first-person narrative of Cash's long career, with more than 30 standards worked into the mix. Goffee -- who seriously resembles country music's most notorious outlaw, with his piercing gaze, chiseled-in-stone features, and long black hair -- delivers his monologues in Cash's trademark, world-weary timbre. His voice sounds almost as lived-in as Johnny's, and as the latter draws closer to the end of his days, Goffee's powerful delivery ensures that the "Ring of Fire" won't be extinguished anytime soon.
