We Screwed Up

In our May 30 Summer Guide, we told you on our cover you could win tickets to the Irish Cultural Festival, the Cuyahoga County Fair, and the Cleveland Labor Day Oktoberfest, but we never told you how.

Here's how:

Please send your name and address to giveaways@clevescene.com. Entries received by July 16, 2012 will be eligible for the drawing on July 17, 2012. One winner will be chosen at random from all eligible entries to receive a pair of Gate Admission Passes ($54 Value) to the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival (July 20-22), the Cuyahoga County Fair (August 6-12) and the Cleveland Labor Day Oktoberfest (August 31 to Sept. 3) — all at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea. Only one entry per person allowed. Winner consents to allow the sponsor to use the winner's name and photograph for publicity purposes.

Thanks for your entry.

Development? Who Needs It?

This is a pretty nice development ["A Big Turn On," June 6] except for two very big drawbacks.

First, the Beachland Ballroom, which has spawned the area's growth, has yet to get any relief from the city's burdensome ticket tax. I see them being sold to some other party with deeper pockets and the prices will go up without a change in that law. So the keystone to this development goes away because of the city.

Second, the parking situation in that area is already a mess without 5 more venues.

Let's bring more traffic to the area with nowhere to park except in residential neighborhoods. Much like Nautica and the Harbor Inn, the street parking gets used up by people avoiding the fees and never stepping foot in the businesses. Dinner customers could very easily force Beachland patrons further into the neighborhood to park. If this concept means losing the Beachland, I don't want it. I'm a patron of the area now and these business opportunities only spell more headaches for those like me.

Alan Glazen Responds

We are working on this [project] in tribute to Beachland and are reviewing every step of the way with them. This is not a "development" project in the usual terms. We're talking about small, quirky places in keeping with our goal to open things up without actually expanding anything! aglazen
