Jon [Hill] is so good at what he does, I can say without reservation his basses are the best out there today — and I have been playing for a little while, so I know whereof I speak [ "Axe Man," on the Scene cover, August 15, 2012]. Plus, he is the only person who I will alow to work on my old Fenders (somewhat of a problem as I have lived in L.A. for over five years). Matter of fact, I am surprised to see this article, as Cleveland usually ignores anyone who is that great at what they do.
The Case for Pet Insurance
Screw insurance companies; they're a bunch of crooks. ["Progressive Goes to Court to Defend Man Responsible for Policy Holder's Death," Scene & Heard blog, August 20, 2012]. If they had their way, we would all be forced to pay money to insurance companies every month, and once something bad happened, they wouldn't have to pay us anything. And, of course, non-payment would result in being turned over to collections, at which point the insurance company would then seize your home, take away your family, and shoot your dog.

It sucks that the average Clevelander can't even go to this ["Chefs Announced for West Side Market's Centennial Gala," Scene & Heard blog, August 14, 2012]. We are the reason the Market has lasted 100 years.

I am sure all of you who are unhappy about the ticket price can understand that the purpose here is to raise money, and wish everyone involved much success in that endeavor. We all love the Market. momma

Yay for Red ["Red the Steakhouse Rolling Into Old Volk's Spot Downtown," August 8, 2012]. I think it would be cool if they left the very red (and very big) Volk's sign up and just overlaid "Red the Steakhouse" signage onto that. Totally serious. Brad, are you reading this? Sam Bell
Back in My Day...
Coming from the perspective of a lifelong Rocky River Pirate and loyal West Sider, I can say that the food is still great at Beardens ["Hamburger History," August 1, 2012], but the decor went to retro during the reopen. Thinking back to a time of rigid brick walls and the risk of a train derailing above [diners' heads] gave Bearden's the municipal feel of being in the city versus the 'burbs. Still a fan of the food, though, and the shakes are drop-dead delicious. Great review. Tim Long
