Get ready for suburban jackasses and rock-climbing dogs.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour comes to - the natural history museum this weekend.
  • The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour comes to the natural history museum this weekend.

Filmmaker Todd Forsbloom says that he's inspired by "all the thrill-seekers of the world who have been killing themselves in the name of entertainment." His short, Xtreme Tramping -- The Lord of the Springs -- a mockumentary about the quest for the perfect backyard trampoline -- was among those named "Best of the Fest" at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, which stops this weekend at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

If seven minutes of Jackass-style stunts isn't your thing, the festival features all sorts of other films that deal with the outdoors. The movies' subjects run the gamut -- from waterfall kayaking to paragliding birds.

There's even the extreme cuteness of Biscuit, the mountaineering dog. "Biscuit [uses climbing] techniques that I think even surprise her," explains Peter Mortimer, who directed the canine's story in Front Range Freaks -- Biscuit. Marvel at Biscuit's "chimney maneuver," in which she "bridges her back and paws against two rocks to wedge her way up, or claws with her nails on the smallest of edges to get any kind of purchase to pull on." It all starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the museum, 1 Wade Oval Drive. Tickets are $25; call 330-655-5444. -- Lucy McKernan

Soft Wear
Dressing for success at the Bra & Panties show.

THU 4/15

Daryl Greene has been hawking skimpy lingerie to strippers, kinky couples, and cross-dressers for nine years. So she knows which nighties and nylons can give a competitor the edge at the ladies-only Best Bra & Panties Contest every Thursday. First, pick a pair of Ruffle Tanga Shorts with pink, white, or black micromesh lace for a "fetishy feel." The bra should be made of pink, red, or the more daring black-and-red lace with matching garter belt. And the stockings should be thigh-high fishnets. "It's an old-fashioned, '40s look," says Greene, who runs the Shop Talk boutique in Lakewood. Strap on a pair of four-inch stilettos, and you're ready to outstrut the competition for the $25 to $100 gift certificates that the store awards to the winners. "They're nice-looking women -- slim, exotic-dancer stripper girls," says Greene. "And most of them have boobs." The action starts at 9 p.m. at Kaos, 1220 Old River Road. Admission is free; call 216-583-5267. -- Cris Glaser

Talking Heads
Artist gets to the top of things in new show.

Michael Lotenero likes heads. His latest exhibit, Heads and Tales, is filled with portraits of them. "I like them because they come out slightly different every time," the painter explains. "Just like people." Lotenero, a Cleveland native who lives in Pennsylvania, has spent the past few years as a commercial artist for such clients as IBM, Nintendo, and the United States Postal Service. "I enjoy getting off of the [computer] and getting dirty," he says. "I have to paint just about every day, or I get grouchy." Heads and Tales runs through May 14 at Bockrath Gallery, 2026 Murray Hill Road. It's open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is free; call 216-721-5990. -- Nadia Michel
